Top 10 Ways To Ensure Your Website Isn't A Joke

I am always surprised when I go onto a website by a leading manufacturer or other corporation and find it riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes that even a grade school student would pick out, as well as finding obsolete information, dead links, nonexistent images, and other elementary mistakes. If you want visitors to your website to consider you an illiterate moron, then by all means go ahead and keep your websites in this laughable fashion. If not, make sure that every page of your website adheres to these standards.
1) Spellcheck is not enough! "Your they're, whose their two?" will not be picked up by any spellchecker yet is completely idiotic. If you didn't pay attention in English class, hire an online editor or proofreader off one of the freelance sites. The few dollars spent will result in an infinite amount of respect and responses from your website visitors.
2) Check every hyperlink, both internal and external. If they don't work, fix them!
3) Make sure that your images are visible. Many HTML editors set up paths that no longer work when the site is FTP's up to the host. Confirm everything!
4) Check your website with the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari. You'll be amazed how different they look on each and what problems can pop up in one that are not present on another browser.
5) Make sure your information is up to date. You can go onto AMD's main CPU information page and find that they don't have many of their latest processors listed, thus their site is several months out of date. Yes, I know that AMD is run by a bunch of braindead n00bs, but don't emulate them!
6) Keep your animation to a bare minimum. Flash and animated gifs may be the website visitor's worst enemy. We've all been to sites that take so long to load their Flash-y landing page that we click away and never return. KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid!
7) Forget all SEO tactics. None of them ever work. White Hat, Gray Hat, Black Hat... all a complete waste of time. If you want really readable pages and high Google placements, just concentrate on having lots of quality, unique, unduplicated information on your site. When you build it that way, they will come.
8) Don't ever use popups, frames and other gimmicks. You're running a legitimate site, not a pr0n emporium!
9) Keep your content text to no more than 600 words or less than 300 words per page. If you have longer content split it up to subsequent pages. If shorter, add more!
10) Make it legible! No navy-blue type on black background. Keep your point size larger than you think it should be, use high contrast colors, and preferably keep your backgrounds white or very light with your text black or a very very very dark color.
Follow these very basic rules (that are ignored by an incredible number of really big, important sites at their own peril) and you'll have a website that will be a pleasure to visit over and over again.

Top 10 Ways To Prevent Falling Prey To Online Thieves

The unfortunate truth is that there is no foolproof method from having your identity stolen online by a truly committed scammer, other than tossing your PC off a bridge. And even then, your identity information is present in so many different databases available from the world wide web that you don't even need to have a computer to fall prey to an online ID thief.
1) Shut down your MySpace/Facebook site. You would be amazed at how much personal information people place on their social media sites. A clever scammer can begin to clone your ID with just your birthdate, let alone your home address and much of the other confidential information that only a fool would put their online personal web page!
2) Consider that there is a scammer reading each of your emails and instant messenger transmissions. They very well may be. Emails and IM are very easy to intercept. Thus never give out any personal information such as Passwords, Social Security Numbers or Credit Card Numbers.
3) Only ever access your online bank account by entering the known URL into your browser, never by a link in an email sent by what you think might be your bank, but is most likely a Phishing Scam.
4) Don't enter your Credit Card Number online even when making purchases. Place the items you wish to purchase in your online shopping cart, then before checking out, call the toll free number of the etailer and give them your payment information by voice or fax. If everyone took this simple extra step it would save billions of dollars of losses per year.
5) You are entitled to receive a free copy of your personal credit bureau file once a year. Make sure you get that from all three agencies, Trans Union, Experian and Equifax, and check it carefully to ensure that all information is correct and you don't have any credit accounts on the file you're not aware of. I once had two duplicate files on each bureau
6) Check your online credit card running statement on an ongoing basis to ensure that all the recent charges that have been placed on the card are the ones you've made. That simple step allowed me to stop a scammer who had cloned my credit card a couple of months ago and was running around on the other side of the country getting $100 authorizations from gas station pump machines.
7) Use a paper shredder, or if you are in a rural area, burn your account statements, credit card receipts and voided checks, rather than toss them in the trash intact.
8) You are under no obligation to share your Social Security Number with anyone but the Government. No matter what they may say, no one else requires that information, not even credit granters!
9) Drop off your bills at the post office, not in a private mail box at your office or apartment building, where it has a much greater chance of being stolen.
10) Make up a fake identity for yourself, complete with matching email address. Then only ever use that identity to sign up with online forms, subscriptions, and all the other places where you are asked to cough up all your personal contact details.
Be careful, as there is a thief behind every internet node!

Top 10 PC Utilities That Do Nothing Useful

There are literally millions of computer users whose systems are bogged down to a crawl
due to the installation of a wide variety of completely useless junk utilities which not only
do nothing useful, but can often run in the background continuously, chewing up your
system resources that you would much rather utilize for important applications. If you
have any of these on your PC, uninstall them now!
1) Broadband Connection Tweakers: They are supposed to optimize your broadband
connection for faster throughput. The only thing they'll optimize is their bank account
at your expense.
2) Download Managers: Countless users install these utilities on their PCs to speed up
downloads. Although they can be handy in picking up broken downloads from where
you left off, they don't speed up anything at all.
3) Registry Editors: They don't do nothing. They do lots. Almost all of it destructive.
  Avoid like the plague.
